A chartered sailing vacation typically includes the one week rental cost of the yacht or sailboat, basic amenities, navigation equipment, and, if selected, a professional crew (captain and chef). Optional extras may include water toys, excursions, and catering services. Some destinations require local cruising taxes, national park fees, and mandatory payment to a local search and rescue authority (such as VISAR in the Virgin Islands), which are payable in advance through the charter company.

To choose the right destination, consider factors like the season, local weather conditions, and the type of sailing experience you want (e.g., tranquil bays, vibrant nightlife, or cultural sightseeing) . For bareboat charters, most destinations require prior sailing experience and some may require an Internationally recognized certification, such as NauticEd SLC. For beginners or those looking for a more relaxed vacation, a skippered or crewed charter is available, allowing you to enjoy the experience without needing sailing expertise. If you wish to charter a catamaran, your resume should include catamaran experience, whether as a captain or a mate. The Neptune's Daughter expert will be able to provide the relevant requirement based on your destination, as well as offer options to obtain required certifications.

Additional expenses may include fuel, docking fees, local taxes, national park fees, damage waiver fees and/or a security deposit, provisioning (food and beverages), and optional extras like crew services or water toys. Additional costs to consider are: flights, local ground transportation, land accommodation as needed, admissions to local attractions, on-shore dining, and travel insurance.
